You will regret if you don’t look around British castles when you go to Britain. One of my friends told me. Castles are good places, you can get a lot of knowledge through your visits.

What is a castle?

Look at this pictures.

A castle is a properly fortified military residence. In UK, you can see many many castles all over the country.

Why were castles built?

· Initially, they were designed and built to hold down conquered territory.

· They were also impressive symbols of the power and wealth of their owners.

· They were places of refuge, and places for the lords to live.

When were castles built?

Norman castles were built from the 11th to 13th centuries.

What’s the structure of a castle?

The building usually include a few sections: Lord’s room, Royal Apartments, Kitchens, Great hall, Gatehouse, Guardroom, Great tower etc. Most of castles were built in the hill.

Now, the old damaged buildings can be restored, they are becoming very important tourist attraction!
