Text Box:

Welcome to Traffic Culture page. Today we will let you know some manners which occur on the bus or on the road.

Have you noticed this? In Britain, when people are waiting for a bus, they wait in line and never cut in. They greet the driver and say ’Good morning’ while they are getting on the bus. After that, they would like to take the back seats, and leave the front seats available.

On the bus, there are some special designs for special people. It is very human. For example, lower floor access (see A & B) for buggies and wheelchairs.   The board (see B) can make people very comfortable if you rely on it. The seats are for the elderly and weak people. There are also some prohibitions on the bus (see C), such as No drinking, eating and smoking and so on.

When people get off the bus, they always say ’ Thank you’ or sometimes you can hear people say ‘Cheers’.

In Britain, no matter where you want to cross the road, the cars always stop and let you go first. You should make a gesture and say ‘Thank you’ to the driver without stopping. If you stop there and say ‘thank you’, the driver will be very angry, because you are wasting his time. It is not polite.

We hope today’s topic is very useful for newcomers in Britain. If you need help, don’t hesitate, just come here.
